“Mid-Century Modern Tabo,” 2023 Original: watercolor and digital
A tabo is a small water dipper that Filipinos use to wash themselves. Lola kept a tabo in the bathroom and, even though we have a shower head, she preferred to fill a bucket and pour warm water over herself using the tabo.
This piece is inspired by a mid-century modern abstract print I came across one day. Mid-century aesthetics appeal to me because that era was Lola's heyday! When I saw the abstract print, comprised of half-circles, I thought,Lola and I could make this Filipino.

The Lola x Kenneth Collaboration is a project by Crescenciana—Kenneth's grandmother, or “lola” in Tagalog—and Kenneth. When Lola was ninety-four years old, he moved back home to San Jose, CA to help care for her, and they started working together. Lola made paintings in watercolor, and he drew her memories on top of them. When Lola passed, she left behind her paintings, and he decided to finish everything she started. He promised.
