Welcome to our blog Felix!

Hi, I’m Felix Wong, the creator of Fai Kee Studio. I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada in the early ’90s. My work blends inspiration and nostalgia from Hong Kong and East Asian culture. These days, I live in Coquitlam, BC with my amazing wife and our two awesome kids. Oh by the way, I am also a motion graphic designer!

What inspired you to create Fai Kee Studios?

I started Fai Kee to contribute to my kid’s bubble tea fund 3 years ago, and slowly it has gained a life of its own! The concept of Fai Kee Studio is based on fond memories of a traditional corner store (士多) from when I grew up in Hong Kong in the 80s. You can find a variety of snacks, drinks, condiments, toys and knick-knacks. I find inspiration in childhood memories and nostalgic objects, it could be a pineapple bun or the design on a Chinese rice bowl.

How would you describe your art process?

I like mixing and matching styles. I love the process of mixing styles and creating something a little different every time. I enjoy working on something uber cute and graphic for a piece and then experimenting with more painterly style on another piece.

As an immigrant, I still have feelings of ‘neither here nor there’ and yearn to just ‘fit in’ at times. The process of creating helps me manage these thoughts in a fun way. It bridges the gap between the ‘here’ and ‘there’. My work varies in styles and expression but they have a common theme which is a synergy of my cultural backgrounds being a Chinese Canadian.

What are some moments that have made you proud?

I am so grateful when people ‘get it’ and resonate with my work. In the past year, my artworks have found their way into Chinatown shops in both Vancouver and San Francisco. The thought of having my artwork in someone else’s home makes me so happy. All the better if they can be a conversion starter and bring people to understanding each other more.

Any exciting developments coming up for Fai Kee Studio?

A lot has been going on recently. Besides my Etsy presence, my official online shop is now open. I also collaborated on a merch collection for Light Up Chinatown (Vancouver, BC) event last year. The opportunity to bring my designs to a broader range of products is really exciting. I am also working on a Cha Chaan Teng- themed calendar for 2026. Hopefully I’ll get to share them soon!

How can people best support you?

Some words of encouragement or any feedback will do! You can follow Fai Kee on Instagram @faikeestudio or subscribe to my shop’s mailing list at faikeestudio.com. Commission work is also welcomed!
