Welcome to our blog Joy Francisco!

Founder of Little Yellow Jeepney

Tell us a bit about your work.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist, a self-published author, and the founder of Little Yellow Jeepney, an independent publishing company dedicated to preserving the Filipino language and culture. I am a passionate advocate for cultural awareness, emotional wellness, and lifelong learning. Through my work as a psychologist and author, I want to empower others to connect with their heritage, embrace their emotions, and create positive change. Fun fact: I have a 232 day streak on an app called Lingvano where I learn ASL.

What inspired the focus on the next generation?

I believe in the importance of language and cultural identity for future generations. My firsthand experience with first-generation Filipinos struggling to pass on the language motivated me to develop a children's book series teaching basic Filipino. My own children, being a blend of Filipino and Laotian heritage, fueled my passion for cultural identity and global awareness.

Along your journey, what is something you always carry with you?

One of my favorite moments is actually hearing from retailers who say they love seeing the excitement on someone’s face when they discover my books — especially when they relay how they wish these books existed when they were growing up. It’s in those moments that I feel incredibly proud — not just of the book itself, but of the cultural representation and connection it’s creating.

"Knowing that these books are helping families feel seen and celebrated makes all the effort so worth it."

What's next for you and Little Yellow Jeepney?

Personally, I'm always excited about traveling to new places. I have a goal of visiting all 50 states before I turn 50. Otherwise, I'm excited about creating more children's books to expand the Filipino language and cultural resources available. I have a few ideas in the queue.

Anything else you want to share with the community?

I just want to take a moment to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support has meant everything to us — whether it was sharing a kind word, showing up to events, or simply believing in what we do. Little Yellow Jeepney truly wouldn’t be where it is today without this amazing community. Thank you for helping us grow, for cheering us on, and for being part of this journey. We’re so grateful.
