"They Call Her Vessel" is a 20-page, half-size, full-color zine of comics during pregnancy. These comics explore cultural expectations, patriarchy, and the quiet rage beneath the so-called “pregnancy glow.” Made for anyone with a love-hate relationship to motherhood and womanhood in today’s political climate.
Katie Quan (she/her) is a third-generation Chinese American born and raised on Ramaytush Ohlone land (San Francisco). She is a visual artist, community advocate, and educator.
As a former instructor of Asian American Studies at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, Katie founded REALSOUL, a curriculum-based arts organization for K-8. The mission of REALSOUL is to foster cross-cultural solidarity and ignite collective action through curriculum, programming, and workshops.
